USA Networks hit series Burn Notice returns tonight ( Thursday, July 10th) at 10pm/9c. I am so looking forward to this second season premiere! Burn Notice is a wonderfully hip throwback to the shows I loved in the ‘80s – Magnum P.I., The Equalizer, Simon & Simon, Riptide, etc.

Why was spy Michael Westen burned? And what's he gonna do about it? The answers begin to drop into place right from the beginning of the season two premiere – starting inside the truck that Michael reluctantly drove into into at the end of last season.

He's transported to a place where he hears multiple gunshots, and then he is introduced to what will be his case for the episode. It's his trial run with the people who put the burn notice on him, and they have their own plans in mind for Michael.

While Michael humors them, his goal is to meet the mysterious voice on the phone. When he finally does meet Carla, played by the beautiful Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica), she brings a whole new set of rules to the table.

Michael has met his match. Carla isn't perfect though, and she has a bit of a slip at the end of the second episode, which may help Michael in figuring out her history.

Bottom line, Burn Notice is a brilliantly written and acted show. If you're not watching it, you should be. Rarely does a series come along that can deliver serious storylines while still retaining the ability to make fun of itself when the time is right. Be sure to check out season 2 of Burn Notice Thursday nights on USA Network.

I'll be blogging it for TV GUIDE this season. I like it a lot better than those 1980s series, though I liked MAGNUM PI a lot in the early seasons.
