FORGOTTEN BOOKS: THE CHIC CHICK SPY BY BOB TRALINS!
Written in 1966, this forgotten entry in the spate of paperback original, overhyped, sophmoric-sexed, spy novels trying to grab the shirttails of anything connected to James Bond is perhaps best forgotten for everything except the cover.
According to Wikipedia: “(Author) Tralins has published 251 books under his own name and a dozen pseudonyms, including Sean O'Shea. He is best known for his novels Squaresville Jag, The Cozmozoids, Android Armageddon, Black Pirate, Panther John, the Miss From S.I.S. series, the Valentine Flynn novels, a dozen mind, body, spirit books, and numerous historical novels.”
Wow, I haven’t heard of a single title beyond this entry in his Miss From S.I.S. series (The Miss From S.I.S., The Ring A Ding UFOs, and The Chic Chick Spy).
BACK COVER COPY:
Queen S.H.E.B.A. (Secret Hormone Extract Bobby-sexed Army) was the beautiful, diabolical leader of an organization that was making men feel queer and women feel like men, all faithful to her. The ultimate goal: world conquest.
(Fanfare of trumpets) To the rescue, Lee Crosley, code name: Lady Crown, number one espionage agent for the ultra-secret S.I.S. (Society for International Security). Her mission: get Queen Sheba, no matter what the price.
What happens in the next 160 pages is to much to believe, but boy, will you have fun.
This is the pow, bang, sock, ugh, crack, oh,oh,oh, book of the year.
Known for his improbable plots and surprising vocabulary, Tralins is perhaps best known for creating the character of Valentine Flynn under the psydonym Sean O' Shea. Flynn, a cross between Austin Powers, James Bond, and Errol Flynn, was biolled as the swingingest swinger of them all in six titles: The Topless Kitties, Operation Boudoir, Win with Sin, What a Way to Go, Invasion of the Nymphomaniacs, Win with Sin, and The Nymph Island Affair.
Tralins apparently is still writing for the cable television shows Miracles and Other Wonders and Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction. Somehow, I’ve also missed those.
Again, the cover of The Chic Chick Spy is what makes me keep it on the shelf. I don’t think I could bear to read it.
