PARKER GRAPHIC NOVEL COVER!POLICE GET THEIR GOAT!
POLICE GET THEIR GOAT!AS IF LIFE WASN’T TOUGH ENOUGH FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT . . .
It was a shocking sight yesterday as men of the Kwara State Police Command paraded a goat as an armed robbery suspect.
The goat suspect is being detained over an alleged attempt to snatch a Mazda car. The mysterious goat, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tunde Mohammed, while briefing bewildered journalists at the Force headquarters, is an armed robber who attempted to snatch the said car, Wednesday night, and later transformed into the goat in a bid to escape arrest.
He explained that men of a vigilance group in Anifowose Ipata/Oloje areas of the state capital had chased two armed robbery suspects who wanted to demobilise the Mazda car with the intention of stealing it, and while one of them escaped, the other was about to be apprehended by the team when he turned his back on the wall and turned to this goat. They quickly grabbed the goat and here it is.’’ Mohammed said.

MY FAVORITE SPY MOVIES!
MY FAVORITE SPY MOVIES!TANNER OVER AT THE DOUBLE O SECTION BLOG HAS AN EXTENSIVE REVIEW OF CERTAINLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE NON-BOND SPY FILMS, DEADLIER THAN THE MALE ~
Deadlier Than the Male, a Bond-age update of Bulldog Drummond (its title inspired by the Drummond novel The Female of the Species), is my very favorite non-Bond spy movie. (And, as should be evidenced by this blog, I love spy movies!) It’s the best Bond knock-off ever, better than all its Eurospy ilk (enjoyable as they may be), and better even than its more famous Hollywood counterparts like the Flint movies. Of all the imitators 007 spawned in the 1960s, Deadlier Than the Male is the only one that can really go toe-to-toe with Bond.

THE CHEE-CHALKER!THIS IS THE LATEST L. RON HUBBARD PULP STORY TO BE BOTH REPRINTED AND PRESENTED IN SUDIO FORMAT BY GALAXY PRESS. DESPITE HUBBARDS LATER ACTIVITIES, I’VE ENJOYED THE FIRST FIVE OR SIX OF THESE EARLY STORIES FROM HIS PULP CAREER ON CD AND RECOMMEND THE PERFORMANCES.
IN THIS LATEST TALE:
FBI agent Bill Norton has been sent to Ketchikan, Alaska to track down his former boss, who's vanished while investigating a heroin smuggling ring. Norton instantly suspects the smugglers are operating from inside the local fishing fleet. But six months and a string of declared "accidental" drownings have failed to turn up any clues.
Norton's cold case heats up when the local radio station owner emerges, floating face-down at the docks, and a heart-stopping heiress to the halibut trade makes a maelstrom of trouble. The fact that Norton is well dressed and neatly shaven causes some of the local toughs to mistake the agent for a "chee-chalker"—or newcomer—much to their regret.

THE BLACK SHEEP OF BELOGUE: THE BEST OF O.B. MYERS!
THE BLACK SHEEP OF BELOGUE: THE BEST OF O.B. MYERS!Before he became a writer for the Pulp magazines, O.B. Myers was a decorated WWI fighter pilot. He is able to bring those experiences to life in his fiction about the air war in Europe.
In this volume Age of Aces introduce you to two of Myers’ best series.
THE BLACK SHEEP OF BELOGUE
After his arrest for striking an inept superior officer, Yank ace Dynamite Pike escapes court martial and hides out at a hidden drome in the forest of Belogue. Along with his trusted mechanic Splicer Teale, he wages a private war against the Germans while also trying to evade capture by the Allies. These outlaw eagles, who call themselves “The Black Sheep of Belogue”, blaze an explosive trail through Europe’s war skies!
THE MONGOL ACE
Crack American pilot Clipper Stark is assigned the terrible task of stopping the seemingly invincible “Mongol Ace”. Janghiz Kaidu, a descendant of Genghis Khan, joins the German army so he can kill more of the hated Russians. Instead he is shipped off to the Western front where he is trained as a pilot. His sadistic nature makes him the Allies’ most feared and despised adversary. Only Clipper Stark can match the Mongol Ace’s ferocious skills. But can even he kill the unkillable?
The book also features two articles about Myers’ wartime exploits by fellow pilot Kenneth Sinclair, whivh originally appeared in Battle Aces in November 1931. The Frederick Blakeslee cover painting depicts the actual dogfight that won O. B. Myers the Distinguished Service Cross.
All Age of Aces books are $16.99 trade paperbacks and are available from Amazon, Adventure House, or Mike Chomko Books.

A GUIDE TO AUSTRALIAN ENGLISH!
A GUIDE TO AUSTRALIAN ENGLISH!WITH THANKS TO MISS CELLANIA FOR THE LAUGHS
1. The bigger the hat, the smaller the farm.
2. The shorter the nickname, the more they like you.
3. Whether it's the opening of Parliament, or the launch of a new art gallery, there is no Australian event that cannot be improved by a sausage sizzle.
4. If the guy next to you is swearing like a wharfie he's probably a media billionaire. Or on the other hand, he may be a wharfie.
5. There is no food that cannot be improved by the application of tomato sauce.
6. On the beach, all Australians hide their keys and wallets by placing them inside their sandshoes. No thief has ever worked this out.
7. Industrial design knows of no article more useful than the plastic milk crate.
8. All our best heroes are losers.
9. The alpha male in any group is he who takes the barbecue tongs from the hands of the host and blithely begins turning the snags.
10. It's not summer until the steering wheel is too hot to hold.
11. A thong is not a piece of scanty swimwear, as in America, but a fine example of Australian footwear. A group of sheilas wearing black rubber thongs may not be as exciting as you had hoped.
12. It is proper to refer to your best friend as "a total bastard". By contrast, your worst enemy is "a bit of a bastard".
13. Historians believe the widespread use of the word "mate" can be traced to the harsh conditions on the Australian frontier in the 1890s, and the development of a code of mutual aid, or "mateship". Alternatively, Australians may just be really hopeless with names.
14. The wise man will choose a partner who is more attractive than himself.............to mosquitoes.
15. If it can't be fixed with pantyhose and fencing wire, it's not worth fixing.
16. The most popular and widely praised family in any street is the one that has the swimming pool.
17. It's considered better to be down on your luck than up yourself.
18. The phrase "we've got a great lifestyle" means everyone in the family drinks too much.
19. If invited to a party, you should take cheap red wine and then spend all night drinking the host's beer. (Don't worry, he'll have catered for it).
20. If there is any sort of free event or party within a hundred kilometres, you'd be a mug not to go.
21. The phrase "a simple picnic" is not known. You should take everything you own. If you don't need to make three trips back to the car, you're not trying.
22. Unless ethnic or a Pom, you are not permitted to sit down in your front yard, or on your front porch. Pottering about, gardening or leaning on the fence is acceptable. Just don't sit. That's what backyards are for.
23. The tarred road always ends just after the house of the local mayor.
24. On picnics, the Esky is always too small, creating a food versus grog battle that can only ever be resolved by leaving the salad at home.
25. When on a country holiday, the neon sign advertising the motel's pool will always be slightly larger than the pool itself.
26. The men are tough, but the women are tougher.
27. The chief test of manhood is one's ability to install a beach umbrella in high winds.
28. There comes a time in every Australian's life when he/she realises that the Aerogard is worse than the flies.
29. And, finally, don't let the tourist books fool you. NO ONE EVER says "cobber" to anyone ... EVER!

YOUNG SPENSER!
YOUNG SPENSER!FORGOTTEN BOOKS ~ DEAD GAME BY GERALD HAMMOND!
FORGOTTEN BOOKS ~ DEAD GAME BY GERALD HAMMOND!I’ve been friends with author Gerald Hammond for many years. We’ve exchanged letters and now e-mails for years, shared writing problems, created plots together, and generally enjoyed each others company.
Living in Scotland, where he retired from his profession as an architect to write full time, Gerald has been very prolific since his first novel, Fred In Situ was published in 1965. Since then he has seen 67 novels published with several more on the way (Well And Good is due out in early 2009).
He is best known for his two mystery series characters, gunsmith Keith Calder, and Three Oaks dog kennel owner John Cunningham. Both series allow Gerald to indulge in his passions for guns, dogs, bird hunting, fly fishing, and all things outdoors in the Scottish countryside.
Now in his eighties, and up and down in health, Gerald has mostly left his series work behind him. He has focused instead on stand alone novels, most of which are mysteries, but also others featuring Formula One racing (Fine Tune), gliding (Into The Blue), and other excitements or passions catch his fancy.
In the 23 Keith Calder novels and the 11 Three Oaks novels, Hammond has created enduring characters with strong family ties who have all aged appropriately as the series have continued. Often, Hammond has let one of the secondary characters take center stage if the plot revolves around something specific to their personality or situation.
The Calder series started with Dead Game in 1979:
Keith Calder is an itinerant gunsmith and shooting instructor. He is also a rascal with total disregard for the law, a skilled and dedicated poacher of birds of both feathers.
Calder is the guest at a shoot in the Scottish Borders when one of the syndicate members dies – apparently by accident. However, a bullet is found in his body. Yet only shotguns were carried on the shoot. Was he killed by a sniper or by a stray bullet? Or is there some other explanation?
Calder has a personal and very secret interest in the case, but his involvement deepens when the brother of his current girlfriend, Molly, is arrested and charged with the murder – especially as there is no love lost between the two men.
Molly asks Keith to use his expertise on her brother’s behalf. But in agreeing to make his own inquiries, Calder finds he is trying to save himself, and his activities lead him and Molly into violent personal danger.
Gerald Hammond, with his expert knowledge of guns and his love of the Scottish countryside, has created a marvelous background against which he has set a puzzling, credible, and thoroughly entertaining whodunit.
I have enjoyed each of the books in both series and continue to read and savor each new Hammond novel as it arrives. These aren’t long tedious, padded, thrillers. Instead they are almost of another age, ingenious plots, characters with whom you want to spend time, and a world to which you eagerly anticipate returning.

"The Russ Freeman Project was created to insure that Russ' music would not be forgotten. I wanted it to live again in a new way that would attract the younger musicians who did not know of his work. 'Remembering Russ' is the second CD in the Russ Freeman Project. Nathan Tanouye has taken Russ's bebop tunes and arranged them for our big band "Las Vegas Jazz Connection" It was my intent to create new interest in Russ' music. The result is exciting and hopefully as musical as Russ would have wished. Bobby Shew has added his artistry to the project. Tyia Wilson, vocalist, adds her imaginative lyrics and creativity. A PURE DOUBLE CROSS!
A PURE DOUBLE CROSS!He’s a former OSS agent called upon by the FBI to infiltrate a bank-robbing gang in Cleveland, and the bureau will do whatever it takes to make him look legit, even giving Hal thorough plans for the jobs. All this is meant as proof that Hal is the man this gang — run by a man called The Schooler — needs.
Hal’s real mission is to expose the true leader of the gang: a man referred to as Mr. Big. That’s not one of the most original names, but author John Knoerle has a few aces up his sleeve — namely, that this book is filled with so many crosses and double-crosses, you feel as though it takes place in a seminary.

LIE TO ME!
LIE TO ME!SCALPED ~ VOLUME 1 ~ INDIAN COUNTRY!
SCALPED ~ VOLUME 1 ~ INDIAN COUNTRY!Jason Aaron, the up-and-coming writer of the critically acclaimed series THE OTHER SIDE teams with gritty artist R.M. Guéra for an intense crime drama that mixes organized crime with current Native American culture.
Aaron masterfully depicts Bad Horse's tortured split psychology. The character is tough as nails and switches quickly between displaying likable and unlikable behavior. The family dynamics, which includes Bad Horse's activist mother and Red Crow's wild daughter, could come off as soap opera, but Aaron knows how to use personal relationships to explain character and setting.
The world of the Prairie Rose Reservation is full of life thanks to the art of Guera, somewhat in the vein of Eduardo Risso's on 100 Bullets. His characters contain a certain amount of grace no matter how ugly the situations get. The second story collected in the book is the flashback-heavy Hoka Hey, which shows that Aaron has a complex history planned for these characters.

NEW BUDDIES LOUNGE PODCAST #42!DOC SAVAGE / SHADOW COLLECTIBLES!

DOC SAVAGE / SHADOW COLLECTIBLES!REELART STUDIOS SIGNS LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH CONDÉ NAST PUBLICATIONS FOR DOC SAVAGE AND THE SHADOW COLLECTIBLES
New Port Richey, FL- January 7 2009 - Condé Nast’s classic pulp characters, Doc Savage and The Shadow, are back in a big way! And old time pulp officiandos as well as those new to the thrilling adventurers couldn’t be happier with the news.
ReelArt Studios announced today a long sought licensing agreement with Advance Magazine Publishers Inc.’s Condé Nast Publications division to produce resin and bronze collectible statues and busts based on classic art featuring the characters. The collectibles are slated to be marketed in 2009.
Condé Nast Publications is home to many of the world's celebrated magazines and websites, and is the successor to Street and Smith Publications, the original producer of Doc Savage and The Shadow stories.
“Wow, I’m blown away. I’ve been seeking this license for five years and it has finally come to fruition. I couldn’t be more thrilled,” proclaimed Michael Hudson, president of ReelArt Studios/Sequential Pulp Comics. The resurgence of Doc Savage and The Shadow popularity came about in 2006 through the efforts of Anthony Tollin and Nostalgia Ventures, Inc with their wildly popular series of officially licensed trade paperbacks featuring the characters in reissues of their classic pulp stories. Hudson states, “With all that is going on I just felt the time was ripe to reach old and new fans of the characters.”
The Doc Savage statue, which will be the first release under the license by ReelArt Studios, is based on original art by acclaimed artist Bob Larkin who successfully continued the James Bama “Steve Holland” look of the character on the Bantam reprints. States Hudson, “Although I personally love the Paul Baumhofer covers from the pulps I feel that today’s audience will see Doc more as Bama, Larkin and those who have followed have envisioned him. Since the statue depicts a man larger than life we chose to go with a larger format than we usually do. At 18 3/4 inches from base to the top of Doc’s head we hopefully will have a piece that will take prominence in most settings.” There will be a strictly limited edition run of 1000 units as a pre painted resin and 30 units as a made to order true bronze.

Project will primarily chronicle McQueen's Hollywood career, which began in 1956 when the Indiana native got his break in the pic "Somebody Up There Likes Me."
