87th PRECINT NEWS!

87th PRECINT NEWS!

According to a batch letter sent out by Ed McBain/Evan Hunter’s widow, Stanley Tucci and Steve Buscemi have optioned the 87th Precint books and formed a production team with Lionsgate films to develop them as a series for NBC. The pilot script is being written.

The 87th Precint novels previously had a shot TV life as a 1961-62 one season entry starring Robert Lansing as Detective Steve Corella and Gena Rowlands and his deaf-mute wife, Teddy. While not exactly high cinema, the most high profile and best known movie made from an 87th Precint novel is Fuzz with Burt Reynold, Racquel Welch and Yul Brynner.

Hopefully, if the new series reaches frution it will capture the essence that filled the novels with both humor and pathos.

It would be great if this brought the books back into print.
