ESPIONAGE CENTRAL: ROOM 59 ~ BLACK WIDOW!

CLIFF RYDER (AKA: MEL DOM)

THE WORD FROM MEL . . .

Here's a neat spy book I did for the ROOM 59 series for Gold Eagle. Just found it on the Kindle. For $1.24 it's a steal. I really enjoyed writing this book and had a lot of fun with the series. Wish it would have lasted longer.

FORGOTTEN BOOKS: TELLING LIES FOR FUN AND PROFIT!

FORGOTTEN BOOKS: TELLING LIES FOR FUN AND PROFIT!

LAWRENCE BLOCK

I’ve read a lot of writing books over the years. Most of them have provided at least a little inspiration in that reading about writing reminds me I am a writer and can motivate me to get back to putting words on paper.

However, the one book I’ve found to actually help me be a better writer is Lawrence Block’s Telling Lies For Fun And Profit. This collection of Block’s cherished Writer’s Digest columns is filled with Block’s brand of gentle wisdom, wry observations, dry humor, and positive affirmations for writers of all experience.

TELLING LIES FOR FUN AND PROFIT

Characters refusing to talk? Plot plodding along? Where do good ideas come from anyway? In this wonderfully practical volume, two-time Edgar Award-winning novelist Lawrence Block takes an inside look at writing as a craft and as a career.

From studying the market, to mastering self-discipline and "creative procrastination," through coping with rejections, Telling Lies for Fun And Profit is an invaluable sourcebook of information. It is a must read for anyone serious about writing or understanding how the process works.

If you only ever read one book about writing, or if you haven’t read one in a while and are looking for something to get you excited about the writing experience again, you can’t do better than this addictive read.

With the advent of e-books, Telling Lies For Fun And Profit is easily available. Get it now!

JAMES REASONER

KINDLE EDITION ~ $2.99

HERE’S THE WORD FROM JAMES ON HIS ROUGH EDGES BLOG:

My novel The Wilderness Road, originally published by Harper Paperbacks, is a frontier historical set in Kentucky in 1790. Despite this, the cover of the Harper edition features a cowboy who's a dead ringer for Charles Bronson in Once Upon A Time In The West carrying a Winchester. Of course, who am I to argue, since it sold the best of the eight books I wrote for Harper. It's nice to have it available again, since I always thought it was one of my best books.

THE WILDERNESS ROAD

The country was young for a farmer named Davis Hallam. In 1790, a hard life grew unendurable when he was accused of killing his wife. Forced into the life of a fugitive, he fled his home and family and signed on to a crew that was widening the legendary Wilderness Road that would run from southwestern Virginia, across the mountains, and into the hinterlands of Kentucky.

For a while Davis managed to lose himself in the back-breaking labor, even finding love and adventure along the way, but in the end, he would be forced to confront the past and tie together the loose ends of the life he had let fall along the Wilderness Road.

E-BOOKS: GHOST RIVER!

LIVIA WASHBURN

KINDLE EDITION ~ $2.99

PER JAMES REASONER . . .

Livia's Ghost River is one of several Westerns that originally came out in hardback from M. Evans under the name L.J. Washburn. That's the only edition until now, and it's also very nice to have it available again. It's a stand-alone traditional Western, and none other than Len Meares, the author of the iconic Larry and Stretch series under the name Marshall Grover, read it and declared it one of the best Westerns he'd ever read.

GHOST RIVER

After his entire hometown turns against him for a crime he didn't commit, Jacob Travers runs away and joins a gang of bank robbers. But when a job goes bad and Travers is seriously wounded, he sees the man he considers his only friend, turn tail and run, leaving him to die or be caught. Disillusions but determined to survive, Travers crawls to the site of a deserted trading post in Ghost River -- a place he never knew existed – where he recovers, repents, and swears to stay clean. Life has a way of making that difficult however, as he finds himself right in the middle of a range war.

E-BOOK AVAILABLE NOW ~ CROAKER: KILL ME AGAIN!

THE FIRST DETECTIVE FEY CROAKER L.A.P.D. NOVEL

PAUL BISHOP

KINDLE EDITION ~ $2.99

Los Angeles homicide detective Fey Croaker must solve the recent murder of a pretty, forty-something woman whose fingerprints surprisingly identify her as a previous murder victim from eighteen years earlier.

At 43, Fey Croaker has survived three dead-end marriages, a severely abusive upbringing, and the relentless resentment of her male colleagues on the force. Now, because of a streak of unsolved murders, she feels extra pressure to solve the murder of a mysterious woman who had multiple IDs in different names, a million dollars in cash, and only new clothing and furniture in her equally new condo at the time of her death.

Fingerprints inexplicably reveal the woman had already been murdered – 18 years earlier in San Francisco. Despite this twist, the case appears to be open and shut – the woman's ex-husband, convicted of killing her the first time, was released on parole weeks before her second murder. However, the victim has many more surprises for everyone involved – especially for Fey, who finds herself becoming one of the suspects when her investigation takes a turn for the deadly.
